Oakley Johns storms to runner-up finish in 2024 opener
Kicking off his 2024 racing season early, Oakley Johns unloaded the Jeff Greer-owned No. 9 machine at Talladega Short Track (Eastaboga, Ala.) on Friday afternoon for night one of the 33rd-running of the Ice Bowl.
Among 31 Super Late Models taking qualifying times, Johns topped his group before falling backwards in his heat race to finish third.
Starting ninth in Saturday's $7,500-to-win showdown, Oakley quickly moved through the field and battled for a Top-3 position in the closing laps. Snagging the second spot on a late restart, Johns would cross the finish line second behind race-winner Ryan Gustin while Christian Hanger, Ray Cook and Sam Seawright completed the Top-5.
Johns also competed in the CRUSA Street Stock division where he would record an 11th-place finish in the main event
